Interview with Misty Williams

Over the course of the last few years, I have been asked many questions. If you have questions, please feel free to send them my way.

How did you get into this business and why?

I have always had a love for books. I would read and write little stories growing up. When I was older, I starting digging deep into the writer’s world. I learned the ins and outs of writing. Learning the craft of writing, the business of writing, agents, publishers, and more. I attended classes, online workshops, and conferences. I have sit in the chairs across from editors and agents, hanging on every word they say. Honestly, I still do it. The reason? That is easy. I love it! I love the fact that I’m always learning something new. I’m on the other side of the table, but still the person that learns something at every event or meeting.

What do you look for in potential clients?

Beyond a well-written story…determination. I’m looking for someone that isn’t afraid to hear critical feedback that will only further his or her story. Writers have a hard job and I understand that. They have to grab a publisher/editor/agent’s attention and hold it, but it doesn’t stop there. They have to hold the readers attention, as well. It has to be an all or nothing type of attitude. Determination plays a key role in this because the job doesn’t stop at writing the book. It goes into marketing, edits, and writing the next book. This is a team effort and I walk in with the same determination.

What can a potential client do to get you excited about representing them?

Write a great book! I want to get lost in the pages of a book. I want to be with the characters, connecting with them on so many different levels. With that being said, to do this it would need to come across in the query letter. A short back cover blurb of the book that is well written to pull me in and a little about the author. The real test is when I start reading the pages and I do look at them. Hook me! One more thing…do put social media and websites at the end of the query letter. What would a reader see if they looked up the author?

What is the best way for a potential client to reach out to you?

The best way is email. Visit our website for questions and submission guidelines. *I answer emails and even FB/Twitter messages. Sometimes I get behind, but I do answer!*

Is there anything special you'd like to tell us about your company? About yourself?

Fiery Seas is looking to build our growing number of authors. We have lots of exciting things happening this year and would love to have more join us in the journey.

As for myself, I’m a down-to-earth person. I love to learn and help others on their publishing journeys. It's my passion.

What type of books are you looking for?

I’m looking for romance, thrillers/mysteries, YA, fantasy. Really anything that is well written. I love books that think outside-of-the-box. Twists that make me gasp, edge-of-the-seat suspense and characters that leave me wanting more of them.
