Say It With A Song

Most probably your beloved one will be waiting for a card on Valentine’s Day, if nothing else. It surely is a nice gesture that will be most appreciated by your partner, but what happens if you are not good with words? Of course, you can always buy one of those cards with a little poem typed on, but that’s rather impersonal, don’t you think?

As a hopeless romantic myself, I wish we were still in the time when love letters were a thing, but since we are not, a card can equally help you express your feelings and in far fewer words.

Songs can be a great inspiration for those words you need, and I have a list to help you. There are thousands songs out there, but here are 8 + 1 that I love.

1. “I knew I Loved You” sung by Savage Garden

Sometimes someone walks into your life and you just know they are the one for you and that a whole life ahead awaits you.

“Like in your eyes, I see my future in an instant.”

“There’s just no rhyme or reason. Only the sense of completion. And in your eyes, I see the missing pieces I’m searching for. I think I found my way home.”

2. “Feels Like Home” sung by Linda Ronstadt

I decided long ago to make this my wedding song. I think that says it all. 😊

“There’s something in your voice makes my heart beat fast, hope this feeling lasts the rest of my life.”

“If you knew how happy you are making me, I’ve never thought I’d love anyone so much.”

3. “Have I Told You Lately?” sung by Rod Steward

When you are with someone for a long time, you tend to think that they already know you love them, so you don’t have to say it. Well, NO! Say it and say it often! It will make your partner happier, especially if it is on a regular Monday and not a special day like Valentine’s Day.

“You fill my heart with gladness, take away my sadness, ease my troubles, that’s what you do.”

“You fill my life with laughter and somehow you make it better.”

4. “I Wanna Know What Love Is” sung by Foreigner

Maybe you are in your older years and either by choice or circumstances, you’ve stayed single for long. Most times life has a way to bring love into your life when you are not looking for it.

“I’ve traveled so far to change this lonely life… It looks like love has finally found me… I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me.”

5. “Heaven” sung by Bryan Adams

…and then romance takes you a little further and you feel like you’re in heaven, so you say:

“I’ve been waiting for so long, for something to arrive. For love to come along. Now our dreams are coming true.”

“And love is all I need, and I found it there in your heart.”

6. “Everything I Do, I Do It For You” sung by Bryan Adams

…and you think this is the love that will last forever.

“There’s no love like your love, and no other could give more love.

There’s nowhere unless you’re there. All the time, all the way.”

7. “I Finally Found Someone” sung by Barbara Streisand & Bryan Adams

From the amazing soundtrack of “The Mirror Has Two Faces”, which by the way could be your movie-night date film choice, if not for any other reason but to listen to this:

“I finally found someone, someone to share my life. I finally found the one, to be with every night. Cause whatever I do. It’s just got to be you.”

8. “Because You Loved Me” sung by Celine Dion

My parents have been together for 45 years. This song reminds me of couples like that, who have been through a lot and stood time. Takes courage, patience and unconditional love, and I salute you!

“For all those time you stood by me, for all the truth that you made me see,

For all the joy you brought to my life, for all the wrong that you made right,

For every dream you made come true, for all the love I found in you,

I’ll be forever thankful, baby.”

And my plus 1: “Dance Me To The End Of Love” sung by Leonard Cohen

Well, along with your card, make a tape of all these songs (old-fashioned girl here) and ask your partner to dance. When you hold them tight, whisper:

“Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long… Dance me to the end of love…”
