Gulf Coast Writers Retreat
Fiery Seas Publishing is excited to announce Gulf Coast Writers Retreat— a five-day writing retreat that will take place along the coast of Alabama on November 1 - 5, 2017.
This writing retreat is a wonderful opportunity to get intense instruction over the course of five days, working through query letters, plot, characters, hooks, and more with Fiery Seas very own Misty Williams. Get your questions answered, help writing a query letter that will grab agent/editors attention and a 50 page critique. Note that there are limited spots available for the retreat. Details below.
WHAT IS IT?
This is a special five-day writing retreat on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 to November 5, 2017, at a house on the Coast of Alabama. Five days full of classes and advice designed to give you the best instruction concerning how to get your manuscript published. We’ll discuss how to write queries & pitches, what makes an agent/editor stop reading your manuscript, and more. Writers of all genres are welcome.

Housing for the five days.

Query letter critique (Writers will have a chance to correct and get a second critique before leaving)

Gulf Coast Writers Retreat
November 1 – 5, 2017
Day One (Wednesday) – Welcome Dinner with drinks. Schedules will be given out. Getting to know each other. Relaxing before the work begins.
Day Two (Thursday) – We will start the day with Query Letter writing. We will go over each writers query letters in depth. A detailed critique of each query letter and what to do to make them shine. Writers will have a chance to correct them and have them looked at before they leave.
We will go over the process of sending out queries and what editors/agents/publishers look for when going through submission.
Hooks – how to hook an editor/agent/publisher.
Day Three (Friday) – We will go over opening pages. What an editor/agent/publisher look at in the opening pages of submissions. How to hook and keep them reading. We will use the writers first pages and go over them in depth of what works and what doesn’t and how to fix it.
We will talk about characterization, dialogue, and the emotional connection that readers want when they read. Balancing details while moving the story forward.
Day Four (Saturday) – Plot. What the story is about and making sure that everything flows smoothly. Moving the story forward in a way that is consist with the genre the author is writing.
50 page critiques will be gone over in detail with each writer throughout the day, while others work on their manuscripts and query letters.
Day Five (Sunday) – Wrap up any questions. Look over any last corrections to query letters and talk about the process after signing a contract. Learning what to expect along the journey to publication.
