What is so special about Tyler West?

A lot of people ask me what is so special about Tyler West? He sounds like a spoiled brat who doesn’t want to overly exert himself. He takes jobs that are beneath his intellectual abilities, he can’t seem to make up his mind about his girlfriend, he uses his friends and even his mother. But he does have a love life and he has friends. He’s not unhappy and he’s not isolated. He doesn’t say get me off this planet or I’m so depressed I can’t function. Loneliness and consternation is the price Tyler pays for being so inner directed. That’s why I wrote HOT SHOT with a Christmas time background. During the holidays, Tyler feels romantic. His mother wants a Dickensian dinner, but Tyler prefers going out in the nighttime and just taking in the cold and the season. It’s romantic and he is a romantic.

I did my doctoral thesis on verbal versus non-verbal abuse and how it impacts adulthood and one of the big mysteries is how verbal abilities during abuse cause the survivor of the abuse to be very angry in adulthood. Non-verbal survivors are very helpless. When Tyler’s father went away for embezzlement and other crimes, Tyler was 10. He could barely remember the old man, but he’s mad. There’s something he must accomplish before he can finally sit back and say, “I’m ready to start my life.” I think he believes a “quick fix,” like winning a bunch of money at gambling will give him that head start.

“A fun, crazy read. Sit back and enjoy the ride.”
