Character Interview with Erick Darvaul
What is your name and how old are you? Erick Darvaul and I’m 17.
Where is your home? The town of Draymed. I live in a manor on a hill above the town.
What is your profession? I’m not really sure you would consider it a profession, but I’ve studied all my life to be a Necromancer. I’m one of only six left in the entire world.
Describe yourself. What is your worst and best quality? I’m of an average height with curly brown hair and blue eyes. My worst quality is that I don’t really understand people. When you’re shut away with no one but your parents and undead to talk to, it’s hard to get to know anyone. Corby has helped me a lot in the last year with learning what people are like. My best quality is my tenacity. I’ve got to get to Broken Mountain to join the other Necromancers, and I’m going to do it if it kills me.
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you? The same thing I want them to know about other Necromancers. We’re not evil. We’re here because the gods kept us here to make sure the evil that threatened our world never returns. And if it does, we’re here to make sure it never spreads again. We don’t want to kill you and we don’t want to steal your souls.
What are you most afraid of? That I won’t be able to reach Broken Mountain. Or that I will come face to face with the Inconnu and fail, not be able to do my part in the fight.
What do you want more than anything? More than anything I want my parents back. They left me to fend for myself and didn’t tell me all I needed to know to survive. I want them here to advise me about the dangers ahead. I also want to know why they killed themselves.
What is your relationship status? There’s a girl, Elissia, I’m starting to really like. She’s very secretive and she likes me, but only as a friend. I’m hoping it becomes something more.
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement? Surviving my parents’ suicide and not giving in to the despair that consumed me. Knowing that I had at least one friend in Corby helped a lot.
What is your idea of happiness? Being accepted by people who realize that just because I’m a Necromancer, I’m still a good person.
What is your current state of mind? Scared but determined. Getting to Broken Mountain is a long journey into places I know nothing about. But I’m going to do my best to make.
What is your most treasured possession? Possession isn’t the right word, but what I treasure most is Blink. He’s my familiar and my best friend. He was the other reason I kept my sanity after my parents left. He’s also the one who makes sure I don’t succumb to the evil of the Necromancer power I wield.
What is it that you most dislike? The Inconnu. It’s in my blood to hate them for what they did to our world. My whole life is training to make sure they never return.
Which living person do you most despise? Fathen. He was the one who made sure my family stayed exiled for the past twenty years. He’s a priest, but I see very little holy about him.
What is your greatest regret? That I couldn’t keep my parents from killing themselves. That I never saw any signs they were thinking of doing it.
Which living person do you most admire? Corby. He’s the smartest person I’ve ever met, and that he was willing to take a chance and befriend me when no one else would, says a lot about what a brave and generous person he it.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? Honestly, if I could not be a Necromancer, and could live a normal life, that would be the best. As long as I could still have Blink as a friend.
What is your motto? Death to the Inconnu.
